TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After six scoreless innings, an RBI single in the top of the seventh ultimately made the difference in a narrow 1-0 loss for Alabama against Arkansas.
Alabama (12-8, 0-1 SEC) and Arkansas (17-4, 1-0 SEC) could not push a run across over the first six innings, until a one-out single in the top of the seventh from Razorback first baseman Danielle Gibson broke the scoreless tie. The Crimson Tide had the potential winning run at the plate in the home half of the seventh but could not complete the rally.
Junior KB Sides had three of Alabama's five hits, matching her career high for the second-straight weekend. In the circle, sophomore Montana Fouts (3-3) took the loss with one run allowed over 6.1 innings pitched along with five strikeouts.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"We keep telling the team that the season is a marathon, not a sprint. It's a long 24 games in SEC play. One game isn't going to kill us. We need to come back and get the series for sure though. The most consistent team over 24 games usually ends up being the SEC champion. We don't need to get too low or too high. We need to stay even-keeled."
Highlights
- Junior Bailey Hemphill's team-leading reached base streak ended at 17 games
- The game marked Sides' second three-hit performance of the season and her sixth multi-hit game, which his tied for second on the team
Scoring Summary
- T7th | With runners at the corners and one out, Gibson broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single through the right side (Alabama 0, Arkansas 1)
