BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama's Alonza Klopfer was named to the 2020 Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Community service team, the league office announced Monday.
"Service to others is one of the bedrocks of Alabama gymnastics and we are proud of the work our ladies do in the community," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "Alonza is a shining example of the dedication to others and is a true servant leader within our team and our department as a whole."
The junior is one of eight student-athletes across the SEC to earn a place on the team. Klopfer led the Crimson Tide in community service hours as a junior, giving her time to ReadBAMARead, the Crimson Tide's Halloween Extravaganza, Project Angel Tree, Alabama's Thank-a-Thon, the RISE Center Holiday Party as well as helping guide the Alabama's community service efforts as a member of the Alabama Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
A two-time Scholastic All-American and two-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Klopfer has been a mainstay of the Crimson Tide's balance beam lineup throughout her career, with a career-best score of 9.9 coming this season on the road against Florida.
A President's List (4.0 grade points average) and Dean's List (3.5 or better GPA) student during her UA tenure, she has also competed in the Tide's floor exercise lineup, scoring a career-best of 9.850 on multiple occasions, including stepping in at the last minute against Missouri and clinching the meet for the Tide.
