Alabama Soccer Rolls Past UAB, 4-1, in Spring Season Opener

Four goals were scored by four separate players to earn the victory
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama soccer team topped the UAB Blazers, 4-1, in their spring season opener at BBVA Field in Birmingham Friday night.
Despite entering halftime with neither team on the board, the Crimson Tide gained momentum and took control throughout the second half.
Freshman Carly Wyatt notched the first goal for the Tide in the 54th minute, but the Blazers responded eight minutes later to tie it up 1-1. Freshman Allie Berk scored from a rocket outside the box in the 68th minute to give Alabama the 2-1 advantage, followed by sophomore Riley Mattingly in the 76th minute who found the back of the net with a backward kick. Lastly in the 79th minute, early enrollee Taylor Carter rounded it out with her first goal as a member of the Crimson Tide to bring the score to 4-1.
The Tide, who led the nation in corner kicks among D1 teams in the fall, earned seven corner kick opportunities compared to the Blazers' two and fired off nine more shots (11-2).

The Crimson Tide will host conference-rival Tennessee in its first of three home matches Saturday, Mar. 7 at the Alabama Soccer Stadium. Kick-off will begin at 1 p.m. CT.
