TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama gymnast Griffin James underwent successful surgery Wednesday morning to repair an Achilles injury that occurred last Friday during the Crimson Tide's meet against Arkansas, which ended the sophomore's season.
"Our heart goes out to Griffin for a premature ending to her season," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "Our team and staff all witnessed how hard she fought to make the floor lineup this season and transform her gymnastics over the summer and fall to become a dependable back up on bars and vault. Griff will remain an impactful leader for Team46 in a different capacity.Â
"These ladies are so resilient, and Griffin immediately accepted her new role the day after her injury. With her surgery behind her, I am confident the healing has begun and Griffin will do everything in her power to be healthy and get back to the sport she loves."
James competed in the first six meets of the 2020 season, scoring a career-best 9.875 in the floor exercise against Missouri.Â
