
Alabama Swimming and Diving Earns Three SEC Weekly Honors

The Crimson Tide’s Derek Maas, Morgan Scott and Matt King all earned conference honors following strong showings against Kentucky
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A trio of Alabama swimmers earned league honors the Southeastern Conference office announced on Tuesday. Derek Maas and Morgan Scott were named the male and female SEC Swimmers of the Week, while Matt King was honored as the SEC Male Freshman of the Week.
Maas won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke and swam the fastest breaststroke legs on both the 200 and 400 medley relays in the Crimson Tide's win over Kentucky last week.
Scott won two individual races and was part of four relay wins as well as finishing second in another individual race and a fifth relay to bring the Alabama women to the cusp of an upset over Kentucky. In addition to winning the 100 and 200 freestyles, she also posted the fasted splits in four of the five relays she swam and posted a career-best time in the 200 individual medley by two seconds.
King picked up decisive wins in the 50 and 100 freestyles and as part of four relays. The only swimmer under 20 seconds in the 50 freestyle with a 19.85, he won the 100 freestyle in 44.36. King also posted the fastest splits in all four of his relay swims.
Maas, Scott and King, along with their teammates are slated to return to action on Jan. 15 against the Auburn Tigers at home at the Don Gambril Olympic Pool.
