Jackson earns her 2021 LPGA Tour membership and a spot in the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open field
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama women’s golf alumna Janie Jackson tied for fifth in the Symetra Tour Championship at River Run Country Club last Friday in Davidson, N.C., earning her 2021 LPGA Tour card.
“It’s really special to earn LPGA membership for next year and also qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open next month with a good finish at the Symetra Tour Championship. The last time I played in the U.S. Open was when I qualified in 2014 as an amateur. I’ve had some good finishes in this event over the years and it’s so cool that now it has an even greater meaning in my career, helping me reach the LPGA for the first time. As a veteran on the Symetra Tour, all the years of preparation make this moment extra special.”Janie Jackson
Jackson, who played for the University of Alabama women’s golf team from 2014-16, scored her first professional victory back on March 8. The Huntsville, Ala., native ran away from the field with an eight-shot victory (72-66-68/206) in the 12th annual Florida’s Natural Charity Classic, the first event of the season on the Symetra Tour.
After her season opening victory, Jackson captured a solo third result at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship in July, the first event since the COVID-19 pandemic. Ultimately, a tied for fifth finish in the Symetra Tour Championship moved her earnings to $41,723 and has her in the Volvik Race for the Card top five.
In her fifth Symetra Tour season, Jackson led the Tour in average driving distance (288.155) for 2020. Now, she’ll compete in the prestigious LPGA Tour major as a 2020 Symetra Tour graduate.
Jackson will join fellow former Crimson Tide golfers Jiwon Jeon, Emma Talley, Stephanie Meadow, Cheyenne Knight, Lauren Stephenson and Kristen Gillman, who are all on the LPGA Tour.
