Glad to be Back
I'd like to start today's Byrne Notice by thanking all of you that reached out with calls, texts or tweets while I was home in isolation with COVID-19. This has not been a lot of fun to deal with, but I've made a lot of progress, and it's great to be back at work! The well-wishes are much appreciated, and I look forward to the week ahead and seeing some of you Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Thank you as well for doing your part in reducing the spread. Â
Cross Country Gears up for SEC Championships
Our men's and women's cross country teams will head to Baton Rouge this week for the 2020 Southeastern Conference Championships, which will take place on Friday at the University Club. The women's 6000m race is slated to begin at 9:05 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 8000m at 10 a.m. CT. Fans can follow along on the SEC Network and on social at @AlabamaTrack for up-to-date results.
Senior Night for Soccer
Our soccer team will play its final home match of the 2020 fall season on Friday when it welcomes Texas A&M to Tuscaloosa. The match can be seen on the SEC Network beginning at 7 p.m. Prior to the start, we will recognize our senior class, which has been instrumental in helping our program win over 30 matches the last four seasons and advance to the NCAA tournament.
New Mentor Program
I recently had the opportunity to take part in the kickoff Zoom for our Beyond Four: Athletics Mentorship Program, which is new this year. This Student-Athlete Enhancement initiative is aimed at connecting fifth year and graduate student-athletes with professionals to help them gain insight on career development and personal growth. It is a great program that I know will benefit not only the mentees, but the mentors as well.
Alabama Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
I'm really proud of the work that our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is doing this fall. Like everyone else, the folks who make SAAC go this year have had to work harder and smarter than ever before to continue making a difference for the Crimson Tide and the community around us. They've maintained a great attitude throughout and have found innovative ways achieve their mission and goals.
Champions Club
Just over 75 percent of the seats have been committed but it's not too late to secure your seats in the Champions Club for the 2021 Alabama Football season. Located on Bryant-Denny Stadium's west side, the Champions Club offers sideline views from the end zones to 25-yard lines, and patrons enjoy designated stadium entry, an all-inclusive catered buffet in the enclosed, air-conditioned club along with access to alcohol storage lockers and a pouring room among other amenities. Explore the Champions Club experience by checking out this video. Contact the Crimson Tide Foundation at 205-348-9727 or ctf@ia.ua.edu to secure your seats before they sell out.
University Spotlight
Congratulations to Douglas Klutz, a UA criminology and criminal justice instructor, for being named the No. 1 professor in the United States for the second time in his career. He earned the top distinction in 2020 from CEOWORLD Magazine and Best Value Schools and was No. 1 in 2017 by Forbes.
#RollTideFriday
This week's #RollTideFriday photos are a pair of stateside selfies. First, we have Matt Saxe in Minnesota with some throwback gear, and secondly, we have Stacy Reel representing in North Carolina.
