Alabama Men's Golf in 12th Place after 36 Holes of Play at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational

Crimson Tide shoots second consecutive round of 294 and is in a tie with Northwestern entering the final round of play
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The No. 21-ranked Alabama men's golf team carded a second consecutive score of 14-over par 294 and is in a tie for 12th overall after 36 holes of play at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational.
The Crimson Tide – one of 11 ranked teams in the 15-team field – owns a two-day total of 28-over par 588 and is even with Northwestern heading into Sunday's final round. Baylor (564), ranked 20th in the nation, is the clubhouse leader and owns a one stroke lead over No. 3 Georgia Tech (565). Tenth-ranked Pepperdine (567), No. 23 North Carolina (573) and No. 19 Illinois (576) round out the top five teams, respectively. Top-ranked Texas (577) is in sixth.
Leading The Way
- Sophomore Davis Shore followed his opening round of 71 with another 1-over par 71 during Saturday's 18 holes. Shore, who is competing in his first stroke play tournament as a starter since last February, is in a tie for 15th overall with a 36-hole total of 2-over par 142 (71-71).
- Sophomore Frankie Capan III is in a tie for 31st overall with a 5-over 145 (70-75). The North Oaks, Minn., native carded the team's lowest round of the event with an even par 70 during Friday's opening 18 holes.
Other Performers
- Junior Wilson Furr was the only Crimson Tide player to improve from his first-round score. After shooting an 80 on Friday, Furr, a native of Jackson, Miss., bettered that by seven strokes with a 3-over 73 on Saturday. He will enter the third and final round in 72nd overall.
- Freshman Thomas Ponder is in a tie for 67th after he carded a two-round total of 151 (76-75).
- Sophomore Prescott Butler rounds out the UA starting five in a tie for 73rd with a 154 (77-77).
- Freshman Simms Abney, who is competing as an individual this weekend, is in a tie for 73rd with a 154 (78-76).
Fun Fact
- The par 70, 7,219-yard famed Olympia Fields Country Club North Course always presents a challenge to anyone who plays it, but the course was even more challenging – nearly two full strokes tougher – from Friday to Saturday. Players averaged a respectable 72.62 strokes per round during Friday's first round, but that number rose to a 74.31 per round average on Saturday.
