Senior Edson Ortiz went 1-1 in singles play on Friday
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior Edson Ortiz went 1-1 in singles play to begin the Gamecock Fall Invitational on Friday in Columbia, S.C. Ortiz and junior Jeremy Gschwendtner will start doubles competition on Saturday morning.
Round-by-Round
- Ortiz who comes into the Black Singles Draw as the No. 3 seed and began his day by defeating Phillip Jordan of South Carolina, 6-1, 6-0. In round two, No. 42 Ortiz fell to Siddhant Banthia of Wake Forest, 7-6(4), 6-2.
- In the White Singles Draw, Gschwendtner fell in his first match of the day to No. 6 seed and No. 122 Chih Chi Huang of Texas, 6-2, 7-5. The junior bounced also dropped his second match of the day after falling a closely contested match against Thomas Wright of Auburn, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, in consolations.
Up Next
- On Saturday, there will be two rounds of doubles beginning at 7 a.m. CT. Ortiz/Gschwendtner will play Connor Thomson and Jordan of South Carolina on Court W1.
- In singles, Ortiz will face Alejandro Requant-Bacardi of Arizona, while Gschwendtner will play Yusuf Khamis of East Tennessee State on Saturday.
