BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Alabama gymnastics was the only program to finish among the top 10 by team grade point average and in the top 12 in the final national ranking during the 2019 season, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) revealed this week.
"We are very proud of the continued excellence our ladies bring to their academic pursuits," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "To lead the SEC and stand among the best in the nation year-in and year-out when it comes to this great honor is a tremendous accomplishment."
The Crimson Tide also led the nation with 89 percent of its 2019 roster earning Scholastic All-America honors. Alabama also led the Southeastern Conference in terms of team GPA and number of Scholastic All-Americans.
The Tide's 16 Scholastic All-Americans ranks second all-time in school history, behind 2017's school-record 19. To be a Scholastic All-American, a gymnast must have a 3.5 or better GPA either for the previous academic year, or for their career. A total of 53 Tide gymnasts have earned 114 Scholastic All-America honors over the last seven years.
The Crimson Tide's 2018-19 Scholastic All-Americans include: Abby Armbrecht, Jenna Bresette, Maddie Desch, Asia DeWalt, Kylie Dickson, Emily Gaskins, Angelina Giancroce, Jensie Givens, Lexi Graber, Ariana Guerra, Griffin James, Bailie Key, Alonza Klopfer, Shea Mahoney, Sania Mitchell and Shallon Olsen.
The 2018-19 academic year marked the 14th year in a row that Crimson Tide gymnastics has posted a team GPA of 3.4 or better.
