Alabama Track and Field Shines at National Championships

Crimson Tide student-athletes took part in a trio of national championships, including the U.S., Canadian and Trinidad Outdoor Championships
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track and field posted several finals appearances at a trio of national meets this past week, including the United States, Canadian and Trinidadian championships.
The Crimson Tide's week was highlighted by podium finishes at the U.S. championships by rising senior Shelby McEwen (2nd in the high jump) and 2019 senior Kord Ferguson (3rd in the discus), as well as national championships from alums Jereem Richards (200 meters) and Portious Warren (discus) at the Trinidadian championships.
Highlights
- 2020 senior Shelby McEwen took second in the high jump at the United States Championships with a personal best of 7-6 ½ (2.30m)
- 2019 senior Kord Ferguson took third place in the discus at the U.S. Championships with a personal-best throw of 207-6 (63.25m)
- Rising sophomore Bobby Colantonio Jr. took ninth in the hammer throw at the U.S. Championships with a throw 225-0 (68.59m)
- 2019 senior Keitavious Walter finished eighth in the semifinals of the 200 meters after running a 20.56 and 21st overall in the 100 meters after posting a time of 10.49 at the U.S. Championships
- 2020 senior Robert Dunning was ninth in the semifinals of the 110-meter hurdles after running a 13.67 at the U.S. Championships
- 2020 senior Natassha McDonald went 52.92 in the 400-meter final of the Canadian Championships, taking seventh place
- Alum Jereem Richards won the Trinidad 200-meters title with a championship-record time of 20.14 and was second in the 100 meters with a personal best of 10.23
- 2019 senior Portious Warren won the discus (151-10/46.29m) and was second in the shot put (54-10/16.71m) at the Trinidad Championships
- 2019 senior Mauricia Prieto took second in the 200 meters with a time of 23.09 and sixth in the 100 meters with a 11.54 at the Trinidad Championships
- Alum Ruebin Walters was second in the 110m hurdles at the Trinidad Championships after posting a time of 13.96
