Alabama Well Represented at 2019 FINA World Swimming Championships

The Crimson Tide has two current swimmers and four alumni at the 2019 World Championships in South Korea
GWANGJU, South Korea – The University of Alabama will be well represented when the 2019 FINA World Swimming Championships get underway Sunday in Gwangju, South Korea. Two current swimmers and four alumni will be in action during the week-long event being held at the Nambu University Municipal Aquatics Center.
Senior Zane Waddell and sophomore Kalia Antoniou, will represent South Africa and Cyprus, respectively, while Kristian Gkolomeev (Greece), Anton McKee (Iceland), Christopher Reid (South Africa) and Abbas Qali (Kuwait) will also be in action.
- NCAA Champion and All-American Zane Waddell will swim the 50-meter backstroke at the World Championships, the same event that he won the gold medal in at the 2019 World University Game earlier this month.
- Kalia Antoniou will swim both the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle.
- A three-time NCAA Champion, All-American and Olympian, Kristian Gkolomeev will swim the 50-meter butterfly and the 50-meter freestyle.
- NCAA Champion, All-American, Academic All-American and Olympian Anton McKee will have the busiest slate of any Icelandic or Crimson Tide swimmer, swimming the 50-meter, 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke.
- Olympian Abbas Qali will swim the 50-meter and 100-meter butterfly.
- All-American and Olympian Christopher Reid will compete in the 100 and 200 backstroke.
