Teixido will enter The Capstone as a true freshman this upcoming fall
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team added Ares Teixido from Barcelona, Spain to the program, head coach Jenny Mainz and assistant coach Jonatan Berhane announced on Tuesday.
"We are very excited to have Ares join our program," Berhane stated. "She has great character and thrives on competition, which is a key component to be successful in our league. She has competed nationally and internationally and has done very well. She still has the appetite and love for tennis and wants to continue to grow as a player. She will make an immediate impact on our team. We are thrilled to see her on campus in August."
Teixido has been ranked as high as No. 37 nationally in Spain and earned a career-best ranking at No. 270 in the International Tennis Federation junior rankings. Most recently, she was a semifinalist in singles, while winning the doubles title in the ITF G5 Tarragona in April. Also in 2019, she won the doubles title in the Junior Catalan Championship.
The incoming freshman has also won the Doubles ITF G4 France and won both singles and doubles titles in the ITF G5 Madrid in 2018. Teixido won an additional doubles title and was a semifinalist in singles in the ITF G4 Netherlands in July of 2018.
Other highlights include finishing runner-up in singles in the ITF G4 Algeria and Master Mutua Madrid Open U-16 and doubles runner-up in the ITF G4 Portugal. Teixido was also a doubles semifinalist in the U-18 National Championship in Zaragoza in the summer of 2018.
