Alabama’s Shallon Olsen Tied for First on the Vault after Day One of the 2019 Canadian National Gymnastics Championships

The Crimson Tide gymnast scored a 14.500 on day one of the championships to tie for first on the vault heading into Sunday’s finals
OTTAWA, Ontario – University of Alabama gymnast Shallon Olsen took first in the vault on day one of the Canadian National Championships Friday night in Ottawa, Ontario at The Fieldhouse on the Carleton University campus.
Olsen scored a 14.500 to tie for first place heading into Sunday's final. She was also fourth in the balance beam with a 13.233 and seventh in the floor exercise with a 13.066.
In October, Olsen earned a silver medal in the vault at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, becoming the first Canadian woman to earn a vault medal at Worlds. The Crimson Tide freshman posted a score of 14.516 to take the silver medal, with Team USA's Simone Biles winning gold.
Olsen is the second Alabama gymnast to earn a medal on the vault at the World Championships. The Tide's Kayla Williams was the gold medalist on vault for the United States at the 2009 Worlds. In addition to her individual efforts, Olsen helped lead Team Canada to a historic fourth-place finish at the 2019 World Championships.
