Montana Fouts Named Top-Three Finalist for Schutt Sports/NFCA Freshman of the Year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Alabama freshman pitcher Montana Fouts is one of three finalists for the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division-I Freshman of the Year, announced Tuesday.
Ten finalists were announced on May 9, with the current cut to three as the final one before the award is presented on May 28 in Oklahoma City prior to the Women's College World Series. Fouts is joined by Minnesota outfielder Natalie Denhartog and Northwestern pitcher Danielle Williams as finalists. Former Alabama All-American Alexis Osorio was previously a top-three finalist for the award in 2015.
Fouts was this year's SEC Freshman of the Year, along with earning First Team All-SEC and First Team NFCA All-Region honors. She is 17-4 with a 1.20 ERA, throwing 14 complete games with five shutouts. She has struck out 164 batters over 146.0 innings, picking up five saves as well. Victories over ranked opponents for the Grayson, Ky., native include Arizona, Georgia, Florida and two against Minnesota. She earned five weekly honors from the SEC, including a program-record four Freshman of the Week accolades.
Fouts and her Crimson Tide teammates open play against Texas in the NCAA Super Regional round in Tuscaloosa on Thursday, May 23 at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN.
