Sophomore Angelica Moresco posted a 2-over par 75 in Sunday's completion of the second round
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Alabama sophomore Angelica Moresco finished with a 2-over par 75 in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf Championships Sunday after severe storms forced a suspension of play on Saturday. Moresco stands at 8-over par 154 after two rounds at the Blessings Golf Club, and climbed one spot in the leaderboard in a tie for 52nd.
"I played really good today, I shot 2-over and made some really good birdies," Moresco said. "Yesterday I made some mistakes, but I was able to minimize them and keep going. I still have one more round tomorrow, and I am ready to go out there and shoot the lowest and do the best I can. It's such a great opportunity to be out here and I am enjoying it fully."
Moresco ended play Saturday at 3-over through 15 holes, but when second round competition resumed Sunday morning, she opened with a birdie on hole No. 7, before carding back-to-back pars to result in her second round total. The Caldogno, Italy, native finished the round with five birdies and made a four-stroke improvement from Friday's opening round.
Only five golfers in the 132-player field sit under par through 36 holes, leading the pack is Sierra Brooks (Florida) at 4-under par 142, while Maria Fassi (Arkansas) and Bianca Pagdanganan (Arizona) stand at 3-under par 143. Rounding out the top-five individuals are Inez Wanamarta (Purdue) and Ana Belac (Duke).
The weather suspension on Saturday caused major changes to the NCAA Championships. The NCAA tournament committee announced late Saturday that the stroke play portion of the tournament will be shortened from 72 holes to 54 holes. All 24 teams and 12 individuals in the tournament will compete again on Monday. The stroke play portion of the championship will culminate with the individual medalist being determined following the 54 holes. The field will then be cut to the top eight teams which advance to the match play quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Moresco is slated to tee off her third and final round off hole No. 10 at 12:50 p.m. CT. She will be paired with Michigan State's Allyson Geer-Park and Murray State's Linette Holmslykke.
