Sophomore Angelica Moresco is tied for 53rd after Friday’s first round
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Alabama sophomore Angelica Moresco posted a 6-over par 79 on Friday in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf Championships at the Blessings Golf Club.
After the first 18 holes, Moresco is positioned in a tie for 53rd place among the competitive field. In order to qualify for Monday's fourth and final round of stroke play, Moresco must own one of the nine lowest individual scores among the players not on an advancing top 15 team.
Only four golfers in the 132-player field finished in red figures, led by Bianca Pagdanganan of Arizona with a 4-under par 69, while Haley Moore (Arizona), Maria Fassi (Arkansas) and Emilee Hoffman (Texas) are tied for second at 1-under par 72.
Moresco's up-and-down start over the first nine holes settled into another consistent round of pars over the second half. She began the day with a double bogey and tallied three bogeys over the round's first 10 holes, but carded a birdie on hole No. 12 and pushed forward from that point on to play the challenging par-73, 6,397-yard course.
For Saturday's second round, Moresco will continue to compete in a group with Michigan State's Allyson Geer-Park and Oregon's Kathleen Scavo. That trio will tee off No. 10 at 7:55 a.m. CT on Saturday. Fans can follow live scoring from the NCAA Championships by visiting golfstat.com.
