TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama Athletics placed four student-athletes on the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV At-Large teams the College Sports Information Directors of America announced this week.
Seniors Robert Howard and Laurent Bams from swimming and diving earned the men's accolade for the second year in a row, while seniors Andie Daniell (tennis) and Raien Emery (rowing) brought home the honor on the women's side of the slate. It was Daniell's second and Emery's first such recognition.
Unlike the other Academic All-America teams which represent a single sport, the at-large team spans several men's and women's sports. The women's at-large team includes beach volleyball, bowling, rowing, field hockey, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo, while the men include fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, volleyball and wrestling.
Howard and Bams, both NCAA champions and multiple time All-Americans, were also both First Team CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in 2018, while Daniell, an All-SEC honoree, earned Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-America distinction last year.
Bams finished his four-year Alabama career with both a bachelor's and master's degree, carrying a 4.0 grade point average in both. Howard graduated in May with a 4.0 GPA in accounting. Daniell also graduated in May after earning a 4.0 GPA for her career in human performances exercise science. Emery, who is in UA's Accelerated Master's Program, is simultaneously pursuing a bachelor's degree in environmental science and a master's degree in geography, with a 4.0 GPA in both.
All four student-athletes now move on to the national Academic All-America At-Large ballot.
