Alabama Track and Field Posts Trio of Wins at Battle on the Bayou

The Crimson Tide won the women’s 4x400m relay, shot put and 100 meters during the one-day meet
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alabama track and field squad posted a strong showing at the Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday, picking up three wins and 14 top-five finishes.
The Crimson Tide closed the meet with a win in the 4x400-meter relay, with juniors D'Jai Baker and Symone Darius, sophomore Daija Lampkin and junior Katie Funcheon combining to run a 3:34.11 and finishing more than a second ahead of the field.
Senior Haley Teel won the women's shot put with a 54-07.50 (16.65m), finishing more than a foot better than second place, while sophomore Nickolette Dunbar was third after a toss of 51-10.50 (15.81m). Earlier in the day, senior Portious Warren and Teel took second and fourth in the discus, respectively. Warren posted a 179-02 (54.62m), while Teel went 159-02 (48.51m).
Junior Mauricia Prieto won the women's 100 meters with a time of 11.30, while junior Alize Ford took third in the men's 100 with a time of 10.30. Ford also took third overall and second among collegians in the 200 meters after posting a 20.53.
The Crimson Tide's 4x100-meter relay of Lampkin, Prieto, Darius and sophomore Tamara Clark posted the fastest collegiate time of the meet, going 43.79 and taking second overall. Alabama was the only collegiate team under 44 seconds on the day.
Freshman Ashton Domingue took second in the men's javelin after a throw of 211-09 (64.55m).
Juniors Katie Funcheon and D'Jai Baker took third and fifth in the women's 400 meters, respectively. Funcheon posted a 53.44, while Baker posted a 54.16.
Freshman Bobby Colantonio finished fourth in the hammer throw after a toss of 219-11 (67.03m). Senior Will Herrscher took second among collegians and fourth overall in the men's pole vault after clearing 16-10.75 (5.15m) on his first attempt.
After four-consecutive meets on the road to start the season, Alabama hosts the Crimson Tide Invitational April 11-12 at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.
