TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Senior Mazen Osama has been selected to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships for the fourth-consecutive year, the NCAA announced on Tuesday. Osama was both an at-large selection in singles and in doubles with partner sophomore Patrick Kaukovalta. The singles and doubles championships will be held in Orlando, Fla., on May 20-25.
Osama has 13 dual match singles wins all at the No. 1 position, including seven against nationally-ranked foes. The Cairo, Egypt native, came in at No. 48 in the country in the Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings. Most recently, Osama was named First Team All-SEC for the second consecutive year last week. Last year in the NCAA Singles Championships, Osama became the first Alabama men's tennis player to make it to the Round of 16, before eventually falling in the quarterfinals.
In doubles, Osama and Kaukovalta have amassed a 14-7 mark as a pair while also playing every match at the No. 1 spot. This marks the seventh-consecutive season that Alabama has had a doubles pair selected to the NCAA Doubles Championships. Last year, Osama and now junior Edson Ortiz fell in the first round of the tournament.
Singles and doubles matchups along with match times will be announced at a later date. Next up for Osama, Kaukovalta and the Alabama men's tennis team is Round One of the NCAA Team Championships at the Austin Regional on Friday, May 3 at 10 a.m. CT versus No. 3 seed South Florida.
