The Crimson Tide is one of just two schools in the nation to finish in the top-12 every year since NCAA women’s gymnastics came into being in 1982
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama gymnastics finished the 2019 season ranked 12th in the nation. This year's finish makes the Crimson Tide one of just two programs to finish in the top-12 nationally every year since NCAA women's gymnastics came into existence in 1982, with Utah being the other.
Senior Abby Armbrecht earned All-America honors at last week's NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, when she scored a 9.9125 on the floor exercise. With that accolade, the Mobile, Ala., native became the 74th Alabama gymnast to earn All-America recognition since Julie Garrett earned the Tide's first honor in 1982.
Armbrecht was also one of an SEC-best six UA gymnasts to earn All-SEC honors, joining fellow senior Ariana Guerra, juniors Shea Mahoney and Maddie Desch, sophomore Lexi Graber and freshman Shallon Olsen.
As a team, the Tide took third place at the conference championships with a season-best score of 197.350. Alabama's placing extended its streak of top-three finishes to 21-consecutive years and maintained its status as the only school in SEC history to never finish outside the top four at the conference championships.
At the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional, Alabama won its first day of competition, topping host-team Michigan with a 197.225, while taking third in the regional final with another 197.225, just .05 out of second place.
During the regular season, Alabama finished 10-5-0, marking its 28th season with 10-or-more regular-season victories.
Alabama led the SEC and was second nationally in attendance among all women's programs. The Crimson Tide averaged 11,864 fans per meet at home 2019, including a single meet best of 13,861 against Auburn on March 1. The Tide's season average marked the 10th year in a row that UA has averaged over 11,000 per meet for a season.
