Mazen Osama and Edson Ortiz Earn First Team All-SEC Honors

Osama and Ortiz tabbed on the first-team list
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Mazen Osama and junior Edson Ortiz have been named First Team All-Southeastern Conference, the league office announced on Thursday.
Osama has 13 dual match singles wins all at the No. 1 position, including seven against nationally-ranked foes. Most recently, the Cairo, Egypt native, came in at No. 48 in the country in the Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings.
Osama and doubles partner sophomore Patrick Kaukovalta have amassed a 14-7 mark as a pair while also playing every match at the No. 1 spot. The duo has an impressive 6-3 record against ranked opponents and a 7-5 mark in SEC play. In the latest Oracle/ITA Doubles Rankings, the two moved up to No. 9 in the nation.
Ortiz earned conference honors for the second-straight year, after compiling a team-best 16-6 singles record in 2019, including a 4-3 mark against nationally-ranked opponents. Most recently, the Chihuahua, Mexico native, broke into the top-125 in singles for the first time in his career after coming in at No. 97 in the nation in Tuesday's Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings.
In his last time out, Ortiz picked up his highest-career ranking when he defeated No. 52 Sam Riffice of Florida in the quarterfinals of the 2019 SEC Men's Tennis Championships on April 19.
