
No. 21 Alabama Falls in SEC Quarterfinals to No. 3 Florida, 4-1

The Crimson Tide will look ahead to NCAA Regionals
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 21 Alabama men's tennis team dropped its match, 4-1, to No. 3 Florida in the 2019 Southeastern Conference Men's Tennis Championships Quarterfinals on Friday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
With the loss the Crimson Tide drop to 16-10 on the season, while the No. 1-seeded Gators will advance to the semifinals with a 21-2 overall record.
"A competitive effort today and we pushed the Gators in both singles and doubles," head coach George Husack said. " It was good preparation for the post season road ahead which is what we have trained for. We look forward to our next opportunity to compete."
The Gators began the match with the doubles point after picking up victories on courts three and one.
In singles, Florida jumped out to a 3-0 lead with from No. 50 Duarte Vale over Riccardo Roberto and No. 11 Oliver Crawford over No. 46 Mazen Osama. The Tide got on the board when junior Edson Ortiz picked up the highest-ranked win of his career after battling to a three-set victory over No. 52 Sam Riffice, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. The Gators clinched the match on court four with a straight-set win.
The Crimson Tide will wait to hear its named called at the 2019 NCAA Tennis Selection Show on Monday, April 29 beginning at 5 p.m. CT.
