Alabama Track and Field Men and Women Remain Locked in the Top-10 Nationally

NEW ORLEANS – The Alabama track and field men are No. 6 and the women are No. 9 in this week's NCAA Division I Track & Field National Rating Index, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced.
The index, a points system maintained by the USTFCCCA, lists the Tide men with 205.42 points, which ranks second in the South region, while the women are credited with 200.67 points, ranking third in the South region.
Alabama is heading into its sixth week of competition with a trio of road meets following last weekend's Crimson Tide Invitational. The Tide enters the week with 14 performances ranked in the top-10 in NCAA Division I this season.
After a big weekend at the Crimson Tide Invitational, Alabama's 200-meter crew claims five spots in the national top-10, with senior Keitavious Walter and junior Alize Ford coming in at fifth and 10th, respectively, in the men's ranking, while junior Mauricia Prieto and sophomores Daija Lampkin and Tamara Clark are third, fifth and ninth, respectively, on the women's side of the slate.
Senior Gilbert Kigen remains at No. 3 in the men's 10,000 meters, while junior Shelby McEwen is fourth in the high jump after opening his outdoor season last weekend. The Tide has four top-10 spots nailed down in the throwing events. Seniors Portious Warren and Haley Teel are second and fifth in the women's shot put, respectively, while senior Kord Ferguson is sixth in the discus and 10th in the shot put after season-best throws at the Crimson Tide invitational.
The Tide also has three relays ranked in the top-10 nationally. Lampkin, junior Krystal Sparling, Prieto and Clark are sixth in the women's 4x100-meter relay after running a blistering 43.63 last weekend, while Lampkin, Prieto, junior Symone Darius and Clark are No. 8 nationally. Senior Takyera Roberson, Prieto, Clark and junior Natassha McDonald are third in the 4x400-meter relay.
