BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After defeating two nationally-ranked opponents this past weekend, senior Andie Daniell was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
Daniell continued to play some of the best tennis of her career with her strong performances this past weekend. Daniell picked up her sixth and seventh straight singles wins with two more victories over nationally-ranked foes. She began the weekend by cruising past No. 88 Martina Zerulo of Arkansas, 7-6(2), 6-0, on the way to the Tide's 4-2 comeback victory on Friday night. On senior day, she followed up her performance with a 6-3 doubles win alongside sophomore partner Moka Ito, and a 6-2, 6-1, singles victory over No. 106 Mackenzy Middlebrook of Missouri as the Tide concluded its regular season with a 4-1 win.
During her win streak, the Douglasville, Ga., native has picked up five top-125 wins to improve to a career-best and team-high 10-6 over ranked opponents in 2018-19. She has a 6-2 record in SEC singles action with all six wins coming in straight sets. On the year, Daniell sports a 23-9 singles record and is currently No. 9 all-time in career singles wins at Alabama with 85.
Last week Daniell was also named to the 2019 SEC Women's Tennis Community Service Team. This is Daniell's first-career SEC Player of the Week honor.
