
No. 20 Alabama Finishes SEC Road Slate with Matches Versus No. 28 Georgia and No. 15 Tennessee

The Crimson Tide will play the Bulldogs on Friday at 4 p.m. CT and the Vols on Sunday at noon CT
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 20-ranked Alabama men's tennis team will finish up its Southeastern Conference road slate with two matches this weekend beginning with No. 28 Georgia on Friday at 4 p.m. CT in Athens, Ga., and then against No. 15 Tennessee on Sunday at noon CT in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Crimson Tide (13-6, 3-4 SEC) is coming off a 4-1 road win over Auburn on March 22. The Tide dropped the doubles point before dominating the Tigers in singles to earn its third conference victory of the season.
Sophomore Jeremy Gschwendtner has impressed in his first season of eligibility with the Tide, compiling an 10-1 singles record and 6-0 mark in SEC play. No. 39 senior Mazen Osama is 11-7 on the season with five wins over nationally-ranked opponents at the No. 1 spot. Junior Edson Ortiz is tops on the team with 13 singles victories in 2019. In doubles, Osama and sophomore Patrick Kaukovalta are ranked No. 15 with a 10-5 record.
Georgia owns the 56-9 all-time series record against Alabama, however, last season the Tide defeated the No. 21-ranked Bulldogs, 4-2, on April 6 to snap a 15-match losing streak to UGA. The Crimson Tide has only won in Athens one time in the two program's history, when UA came out victorious in 1983. The Bulldogs have three singles players ranked nationally in No. 13 Jan Zielinski, No. 21 Emil Reinberg and No. 78 Philip Henning. UGA also has one doubles pair ranked in No. 47 Zielinski and Robert Loeb. The Bulldogs are 7-8 overall and 3-4 in SEC play.
Tennessee holds the 44-12 series record, including a three-match win streak against Alabama with the last UA win coming in 2016. The Tide has not won in Knoxville since the 1992 season. The Vols have two singles players ranked with No. 66 Timo Stodder and No. 87 Adam Walton, along with No. 31 Stodder/Touliatos in doubles. Tennessee comes into the weekend with a 12-6 record and 3-4 in league action.
