The Crimson Tide swept the individual events and posted season-best scores on the uneven bars and floor exercise against the Tigers
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 8-ranked Alabama gymnastics team beat the No. 16 Missouri Tigers, 196.850-196.550, Friday night in Columbia, Mo., using season-best scores on the uneven bars and floor exercise to secure the victory.
With the win, Alabama goes to 7-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Southeastern Conference competition while Missouri drops to 4-5-0, and 1-3-0 in the SEC.
"Based on the goals that we had coming into the meet, we didn't have the performance we were hoping for," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "That came down to a lack of stuck landings on our part. That being said, we had some great individual performances tonight."
The Crimson Tide swept the individual titles. Sophomore Lexi Graber won the all-around with a 39.350 and the floor exercise with a career-best 9.925. Sophomore Alonza Klopfer used a career-best score of her own to win the balance beam, going 9.875. Junior Shea Mahoney won the uneven bars with a 9.900, while she and Graber shared top honors on the vault with matching 9.875s.
"Shea had a great performance on the uneven bars to get us started tonight, Alonza led us off on the beam like a champion and Lexi went out and put up a career-best score on the floor, so there were a lot of highlights tonight," Duckworth said.
Alabama opened the night with a season-best 49.250 on the uneven bars, led by Mahoney. The Tide also got 9.85s from freshman Emily Gaskins, sophomore Kylie Dickson and senior Ariana Guerra on the bars.
In addition to Graber's winning score, Alabama got a trio of 9.850s from Mahoney, junior Maddie Desch and freshman Shallon Olsen on the floor exercise, pushing the Tide to a 49.375 team score.
Alabama scored a 49.125 on the vault and closed out the meet and the Tigers with a 49.100 on the balance beam.
The Tide follows its meet at Missouri with a trip to Arkansas next week. Alabama's next home meet comes on Friday, Feb. 15 when Florida comes to town for the Tide's annual Power of Pink meet. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262), located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, and online at RollTide.com.
