Limited Number of Tickets Remaining for Final Home Football Game of 2019
We have less than 100 tickets remaining for Saturday's home finale against Western Carolina, which is set for an 11 a.m. start at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Prior to kick, we will honor our 2019 senior class that, over a five-year span, has won two College Football Playoff National Championships, three Southeastern Conference titles and holds a record of 64-5.
Â
Current ticketholders who are unable to make it to Tuscaloosa this weekend are encouraged to either transfer tickets to family/friends or donate to local charitable organizations.
Men's Cross Country set to Compete at NCAA Championships on Saturday
We are so proud of men's cross country for earning its second bid in the last three seasons as a team to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Our team was one of 13 selected at-large after placing third at the South Regional last week. Fans are invited to follow along with the team's trip to Terre Haute, Indiana on social media.
Kigen and Kiprop Earn Individual Awards
After finishing 1-2 at both the NCAA South Regional and SEC Championships, Gilbert Kigen and Vincent Kiprop were honored with individual awards as Gilbert, for the second time, was named the South Region Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year while Vincent won his second SEC Men's Runner of the Year award. Our student-athletes have now won four men's cross country regional honors in the last five years and six league runner of the year awards since 2001. Well-deserved for two of the best to wear the crimson and white!
Curry Notches Win 100 at Alabama
Congratulations to Kristy Curry on earning her 100th win as our women's basketball head coach. The victory came in one of our best all-around team performances on Sunday in a 111-56 decision over Mercer.
Men's Basketball Shuttles and Parking
A reminder to all of our men's basketball patrons that we are offering a free shuttle service from the soccer parking lot, beginning 90 minutes prior to tip and ending 30 minutes after the game concludes. In addition, the newly-constructed Capstone Parking Deck, located at the corner of Bryant Drive and Second Avenue, is open for use and free to the public beginning two hours prior to tipoff.
A Big Roll Tide to our Signees
Since the November signing period began last week, we've had over 70 turn in their letters of intent to suit up for the Crimson Tide for several of our sports including baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, gymnastics, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, women's tennis, track & field, cross country and volleyball. We are thrilled to have such a talented group of individuals join us and look forward to each and every one of their arrivals on campus!
CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Honors for Football and Soccer
We are very proud that between the soccer pitch and the football field, Alabama had four student-athletes earn a place on this year's CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Team. Landon Dickerson and Jedrick Wills Jr. earned the honor from football, while Nealy Martin and Alex Plavin nabbed the honor from soccer. It was the second-consecutive district honor for Jedrick, Alex and Nealy. All four will now move on to the national ballot with a chance to be named Academic All-Americans.
Thank You, Donors!
As we near the Thanksgiving holiday, our student-athletes wanted to show their appreciation to those who generously give to the Crimson Tide Foundation for scholarship support, facility enhancements, renovations and program support. Over the past week, 173 Crimson Tide student-athletes representing each of our sports teams called and wrote notes of appreciation to over 1,000 donors. I had the opportunity to stop by the Thank-a-Thon a few times during the week and saw our student-athletes who were giving their time to make sure our supporters know the impact they are making.
Â
In addition to the words of thanks shared by our student-athletes, I want each and every Crimson Tide Foundation contributor to know that I am also grateful for your support. We like to say that "every gift matters" and it is absolutely true. We would not be the program we are today without the generosity of so many loyal supporters. You continue to amaze us each day with your incredible generosity and pride for this institution. We are thankful for each person who supports our programs and our student-athletes. Crimson Tide Student-Athletes Focusing on the Future
Our DRIVE for Success initiative hosted a Career Industry panel recently, focused on helping our sophomore student-athletes learn about potential fields they may want to look at in terms of life after sport. We're grateful to the professionals who took time out to mentor our student-athletes and our Student-Athlete Enhancement group for continuing to help members of the Crimson Tide prepare for the next steps in their lives.
University Spotlight
Nearly 80 students and personnel from UA's Campus Veterans Association and Auburn's Student Veteran Association will take part in Operation Iron Ruck, November 27-30. The march will span 151 miles from Bryant-Denny Stadium to Jordan-Hare Stadium to bring awareness to veteran suicide. Each student veteran will also carry 22 pounds of donations, which will be distributed along the way to the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home and Three Hots and a Cot, which assists homeless veterans.
#RollTideFriday
We spanned the globe for our #RollTideFriday photos to feature in this week's edition of the Byrne Notice. First, we've got Alan Hall checking in from Erbil, Iraq, and secondly, we have Russ and Susan Moore at the base camp of Mount Everest.
