
Canon Claycomb and JP Cave Sign National Letters of Intent to Join Alabama Men’s Golf Program in 2020

Crimson Tide welcome two of the top prep players in their region in Canon Claycomb and JP Cave
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama men's golf head coach Jay Seawell announced the addition of a pair of standout prep golfers who have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Crimson Tide for the 2019-20 season. JP Cave (Mobile, Ala. | UMS Wright Prep School) and Canon Claycomb (Bowling Green, Ky. | Circle Christian HS) have signed National Letters of Intent to become the newest members of the Alabama men's golf program.
"I am really excited about Canon and JP being a part of the Alabama golf family," Seawell said. "They are both great talents, but more importantly they bring the character that matches the heartbeat and soul of our program. I can't wait to get them on campus and get to work."

- Ranked No.1 in the Golfstat/Sagarin Rankings, No. 4 Rolex American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings and No. 64 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR)
- A four-time Rolex Junior All-American, including landing a spot on the 2019 First Team
- Earned a trio of runner-up finishes: 2018 Rolex Tournament of Champions, AJGA Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods (playoff) and Boys Junior PGA Championship
- Named by the Orlando Sentinel as the Boys Golf Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2017
- Tabbed an All-USA Second Team performer by USA Today in 2018
- A two-time first team all-area performer (2017 and 2018)
- Played his sophomore and junior seasons at Circle Christian High School in Orlando, Fla.
- As a junior, he earned district medalist honors followed by a fifth-place finish in regional play
- Tied for the individual title in the 2018 1A Florida State Championships, but lost in a tiebreaker on the first playoff hole
- Carded a 63 and 64 in district and region tournaments, respectively, and 69-72—141 to tie for third in the 2017 1A state tournament
- Named to the 2018 Junior Ryder Cup Team and will compete in the 2019 Junior Presidents Cup competition in Australia
- One career national junior golf win when he recorded a record-breaking victory at The PING Invitational, carding a 207 (69-67-71)
- Three-time Wyndham Cup team member, two-time selection to Junior Presidents Cup
- Collected seven top-10 national junior golf finishes
- Finished fourth in the 2019 Jones Cup Junior Invitational
- Started the Mason Cup to honor family friend Mason Goodnight, who passed away suddenly in April 2017, and benefits the Mason Goodnight Foundation which supports youth sports in Bowling Green and surrounding communities
- Through the Mason Cup, he has helped raise more than $240,000 with friends using a Ryder Cup-style format since 2018

JP Cave | Mobile, Ala. | UMS Wright
- A three-time all-state honoree by the Alabama Golf Association (AGA), earning 2017 first team all-state, 2018 third-team and the 2019 second-team honors
- Has earned The AHSAA 4A boys individual state champion in back-to-back seasons, claiming the 4A medalist honor in 2018 as a sophomore and the 5A honor in 2019 as a junior
- Recorded a runner-up finish at the AGA Boys State Junior Championship and a fifth-place finish at the Southern Junior Championship
- Helped lead UMS Wright to four consecutive state championships heading into the 2019-20 season
- Ranked as the No. 10 boys golfer in the state of Alabama
- Finished third at the AJGA Arnold Palmer Junior Invitational
- Collected a fifth-place finish at AJGA Jim Bell Memorial Junior
- Has played in nine AJGA events since June of 2018 and recorded seven top-25 finishes
- 2019 UMS Wright team captain and was named the team's most valuable player
