Alabama’s Shallon Olsen Qualifies for Event Finals at World Championships, Leads Team Canada to Team Finals and Olympic Berth

The Crimson Tide sophomore earned a place in event finals on vault for the third consecutive time at the World Championships
STUTTGART, Germany – Alabama sophomore Shallon Olsen helped propel Team Canada to team finals at the 2019 FIG World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany and earned a place in the individual event finals on vault this weekend.
Olsen, the only current NCAA gymnast to earn a place in event finals at this year's Worlds, scored a 14.683 on the vault to take sixth place during qualifying. She has now made event finals on vault the last three World Championships in a row, a streak that includes a silver-medal performance in 2018. She will compete for a medal on vault next Saturday.
With its finish in the qualifying round and advancing to team finals, Canada has also officially qualified a full four-person team for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Team Canada finished the qualifying rounds in fifth place with a score of 162.922, qualifying for Tuesday's team finals.

- Olsen is competing at her third World Championships (2017, 2018 and 2019) and has advanced to event finals on the vault in all three
- She earned silver at the 2018 World Championships, becoming the first Canadian woman to earn a vault medal at Worlds, posting a score of 14.516 to take second to Team USA's Simone Biles
- Olsen finished seventh on the vault at her first Worlds in 2017
- Olsen competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where she finaled on the vault
- At this summer's Pan America Games, she helped lead Canada to a silver medal in the team competition while earning bronze on the vault
- She was a triple medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, taking gold in the team competition and on vault as well as bronze on the floor exercise
