Alabama won two doubles matches and three singles contests
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama earned two doubles wins and three singles victories at the Samford Round Robin on Saturday in Birmingham. The Crimson Tide will finish up play tomorrow.
Round-by-Round
- Alabama started the day with two wins in doubles after junior Sam Fischer and senior Alexey Nesterov moved past Kotorman/Jacobsen of Tulane, 6-1, while junior Jeremy Gschwendtner and freshman Marcelo Sepulveda Garza battled to a 7-5 victory against Collard/Pet'ko from South Alabama.
- In singles, three players came out with wins including Nesterov, Sepulveda Garza and Fischer. Nesterov grinded to a three-set come-from-behind victory over Jordan Chrysostrom from Tennessee, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Fischer earned a two-set win over Manuel Bernard of Troy, 7-6(4), 6-2, while Sepulveda Garza dominated Mason Meier of Tennessee, 6-1, 6-4.
Tournament Notes
- Nesterov continued his strong start to his senior campaign after moving to 9-1 in singles. He is also a perfect 8-0 in doubles.
- Fischer is now 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles to start the 2019 season after winning in both on Saturday.
