No. 19 Alabama Men's Tennis Returns to Action with Dual Match Against Minnesota

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team stays at home to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Friday at 6 p.m. CT at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
Alabama welcomes the Academy of Holy Spirit to Friday night's contest for the singing of the national anthem and honorary first serve. There will be giveaways, opportunities to snap pictures with Big Al, and pizza will be provided.
The Crimson Tide (6-0) remained perfect in the 2019 campaign after topping Northwestern, 5-2, and Harvard, 4-2, last weekend. As a team, Alabama moved up two spots to No. 19 in the most recent Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis Men's Division I National Team Rankings that were released on Wednesday.
So far this season, juniors Edson Ortiz and Zhe Zhou are both undefeated in singles and doubles play. Ortiz and Zhou are each 6-0 individually while registering a 4-0 mark as a tandem.
Friday's contest against Minnesota marks the first meeting between the two programs since 2001, as Alabama holds a 4-3 edge. The Gophers come into Tuscaloosa with an overall 3-1 record after recording their first loss of the season on the road against the Oregon Ducks, 4-1.
