The meet, which starts at 7:30 p.m. CT, marks the Crimson Tide’s second home meet of the season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama gymnastics team welcomes Michigan, Denver and Bowling Green State to Coleman Coliseum Friday for its second-consecutive home meet of the season.
The meet will get underway at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 7:15 p.m. for introductions. Tickets are available online at RollTide.com as well as through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum.
"I've said it many times, there is nothing like competing in Coleman Coliseum on a gymnastics Friday night," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "Our fans' and students' energy is really a difference-maker for our program and something that our ladies feed on. We can't wait to be back out there on Friday."
The first 300 Alabama students through the door will receive Baked Bear ice cream sandwiches. The meet will also be gymnastics' Bama Salute meet, honoring the United States military and first responders, with fans receiving Bama Salute t-shirts and buttons while supplies last.
The University of Alabama's clear bag policy is in effect at gymnastics meets this season as well as existing rules on prohibited items, which include weapons, artificial noisemakers, flags/banners, strollers, computers and more.
Friday will also be Alabama's second quad meet of the season, after posting a win over Northern Illinois, Temple and Southeast Missouri State last Friday to go to 3-0-0 on the season. Michigan is also taking part in its second meet of the season after winning a quad meet of its own on the road to open its season last Friday. Denver and Bowling Green State both open their seasons on Friday.
Alabama and Michigan meet on a fairly regular basis, both in the regular and championship seasons, including opening in Ann Arbor last season. And while the Tide is starting off this year with a pair of quad meets, the format has not been a staple of its schedule over the past 25 years, which is why it's ironic that the last time Alabama faced both Denver and Bowling Green State, it was in quad meets.
Alabama and Denver last met during the 2016 season in State College, Pa., with Penn State and Cornell also in what was also the Tide's last regular-season quad meet before this year. Friday marks just the third time that Alabama has competed against Bowling Green State, with the last two meetings coming in quad meets in 1995 and 1996.
In addition to getting the team win in its 2019 opener, Alabama also won all five individual events, with sophomore Lexi Graber taking top honors in the all-around (39.125), balance beam and floor exercise, while freshmen Shallon Olsen and Emily Gaskins opened their collegiate careers with wins on the vault and uneven bars, respectively.
