Alabama Men’s Tennis Finds Success in Day One of Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall

Play will continue tomorrow with two rounds of doubles and a round of singles matches
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide went undefeated in doubles play and won four singles matches in day one of the annual Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall tournament at the Alabama Tennis Stadium on Friday.
Sophomore Riccardo Roberto highlighted Alabama's day by winning his doubles match and going 2-0 in singles to advance to the Houndstooth Draw Semifinals.
To begin the morning the Tide won both of its doubles matches with sophomore Sam Fischer and junior Zhe Zhou besting Grattan-Smith/Shimamoto (Miami), 8-4, and sophomores Patrick Kaukovalta and Roberto moving past Eskeland/Oscislawski (Rice), 8-4.
In the first round of singles matches, Roberto cruised to a 6-1, 6-3, win over Tatsuki Shimamoto (Miami), while Zhou eased past Marshall Sullivan (Memphis), 6-4, 6-1. Fischer and Kaukovalta each dropped their first-round match.
In round two of singles competition, Roberto picked up his second win of the event after defeating Payton Holden (Princeton), 6-0, 7-6(0). Kaukovalta also picked up a 6-3, 6-3, victory over Franco Aubone (Miami) in the afternoon.
Play will continue with two rounds of doubles in the morning beginning at 9 a.m. and a round of singles starting at 12:30 p.m.
