
Mazen Osama Ranked No. 3 in the Country in Preseason ITA Singles Rankings, Osama/Ortiz No. 9 in Doubles

Osama is the highest-ranked player in Alabama men’s tennis history
TEMPE, Ariz. – Senior Mazen Osama, who finished last year as the highest-ranked singles player in Alabama men's tennis history at No. 8, came in at No. 3 in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Preseason Singles Rankings the organization released on Tuesday morning. Osama and junior Edson Ortiz are also the No. 9 doubles pair in the country.
Osama ended last season with an 18-8 record in the spring, including defeating 12 nationally-ranked foes. The Cairo, Egypt native, became the first Alabama men's tennis player to make it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Singles Tournament, before advancing to the quarterfinals.
Osama also became the first Alabama men's tennis Singles All-American since 2001 and was named the ITA National Player to Watch a season ago.
In doubles, the tandem of Osama and Ortiz achieved their best ranking as a duo after finishing last year with a 16-10 record and an appearance in the NCAA Doubles Tournament. The two previously had their top ranking last season coming in at No. 22 on February 7.
Alabama men's tennis begins its fall season with the annual Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall tournament at the Alabama Tennis Stadium on Sept. 14-16. The first matches are slated for Friday at 9 a.m.
