Crimson Tide Golfers Kristen Gillman, Lauren Stephenson and Jiwon Jeon Advance to Match Play at U.S. Women’s Amateur

Trio will compete in Round of 64 on Wednesday
KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – Alabama's Kristen Gillman, Lauren Stephenson and Jiwon Jeon posted under-par finishes in stroke play to advance to the match play portion the 2018 U.S. Women's Amateur in Kingston Springs, Tenn., Tuesday.
Gillman (70-70/140) finished stroke play at -2 and tied for 22nd. She will meet Ting Hsuan Huang of Chinese Taipei in the Round of 64. Stephenson (69-72/141) finished at -1 to tie for 33rd place and will open match play against Australia's Stephanie Bunque.
Jeon (74-67/141), who will begin her first season with the Tide this fall after transferring from Daytona State (Fla.), turned in a four-under par round Tuesday to also tie for 33rd at 1-under par. She will face Ty Akabane of Danville, Calif., on Wednesday
Following Wednesday's round, two rounds of match play will take place on Thursday to determine Friday's quarterfinalists.
Both Stephenson and Gillman are making their third consecutive appearance at the U.S. Amateur since joining the Alabama program. Stephenson reached the quarterfinals a year ago while Gillman reached the Round of 32.
Gillman is also a former U.S. Amateur champion, having won the 2014 title as a 16-year-old.
Coverage of Wednesday's Round of 64 at the par-71, 6,365-yard Golf Club of Tennessee, will begin at 3 p.m. CT on FS1.
