The Crimson Tide is beginning to wrap up summer play
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis players are spread out all across the world playing in different tournaments this summer. Weekly updates of the results will be provided on RollTide.com.
Patrick Kaukovalta | Espoo, Finland | Finland F1 $15k | Kaarina, Finland
Kaukovalta picked up one ATP singles point at the Finland F1 $15k Futures tournament after defeating No. 1465 Mats Hermans (Netherlands) in the opening round. The rising sophomore then dropped a hard-fought three-set match to No. 832 (No. 5 seed in the tournament) Eduardo Dischinger (Brazil). In doubles competition, Kaukovalta and partner Eero Vasa (Finland) reached the semifinals. Up next, the Espoo, Finland, native is playing in the main draw of singles and doubles (with Vasa) at the Finland F2 $15k Futures in Hyvinkaa, Finland.
Alexey Nesterov | Moscow, Russia | Russia F5 $15k Futures | Kazan, Russia
Nesterov won two matches over the weekend to qualify for the Russia F5 $15k Futures in Kazan, Russia. He will compete in the main draw doubles with partner Ivan Ponomarenko (Russia). Nesterov also reached the qualifying final at Russia F4 $15k in Kazan and France F11 $25k in Montbaun, France.
Thibault Cancel | Toulouse, France | TC Lunel Tournament | Tournefeuille, France
Cancel won the TC Lunel men's tournament in Tournefeuille, France and qualified for two of three futures events this summer (Austria F2 $15k & France F10 $25k). Cancel is set to travel to Moscow, Russia and compete with Nesterov in the Russia F6 and F7 $15k Futures events.
Edson Ortiz & Sam Fischer | ITA National Summer Championships | Fort Worth, Texas
Ortiz earned a main draw bid to the 2018 ITA National Summer Championships on August 10-14, in Fort Worth, Texas, after finishing in the top five of the points race standings. Ortiz and partner Sam Fischer will also participate in doubles competition. Fischer will look to earn a spot in the main draw of singles by making it past the qualifying rounds of the event.
