Crimson Tide golfers will open the 118th U.S. Amateur on Monday morning
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Alabama men's golfers Davis Riley and Davis Shore will open play at the 2018 United States Amateur Championship on Monday morning, which will be co-hosted at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course.
The Crimson Tide duo are two of more than 300 competitors in this year's event, which begins with two rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. Each of the competitors will play one round on Pebble Beach Golf Links (7,040 yards/Par 71) and one round on Spyglass Hill Golf Course (6,993 yards/Par 72), vying to be one of the low 64 scorers to advance to match play.
"I'm excited for both Davis Riley and Davis Shore," Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said. "They will be playing at some iconic venues and it should be an incredible experience for both of them. Both players have had terrific summers and have been playing well coming into the U.S. Amateur. Both have a chance to do something special this week."
Riley, who earned third team All-America honors last year and will be entering his senior season at Alabama this fall, will be competing in his fifth U.S. Amateur when he tees off on Monday. In 2016, the Hattiesburg, Miss., native advanced to the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills after he matched a North Course record with a round of 64 in stroke play. Earlier this month, Riley advanced to the Western Amateur championship match where he fell to fellow competitor Cole Hammer, 1 up.
Meanwhile, Shore also has had a strong summer after a stellar rookie season in 2017-18 at Alabama. Like Riley, Shore also reached match play at the Western Amateur where he fell to Hammer in the round of 16. The Knoxville, Tenn., native will be competing in his second consecutive U.S. Amateur Championship. In 2016, Shore reached the round of 16 at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
Riley is set to tee off at 10:54 a.m. CT (8:54 a.m. PT) off Hole No. 10 at Spyglass Hill, while Shore will begin his round at 10:33 a.m. CT (8:33 PT) off Hole No. 1 at Pebble Beach. Live stats can be found at USGA.org.
