Alabama Men’s Tennis Places Five on ITA Scholar-Athlete Team for Second Straight Year

The Crimson Tide was also honored as an ITA All-Academic Team
TEMPE, Ariz. – Alabama men's tennis team had five members earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete status for the second straight season, while the Crimson Tide also earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition, the ITA announced on Tuesday.
Sam Fischer, Patrick Kaukovalta, Alexey Nesterov, Edson Ortiz, and Riccardo Roberto all earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the Crimson Tide for their academic work during the 2017-18 season.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: Be a varsity letter winner; have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
