The Crimson Tide continues summer competition across the globe
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis players are spread out all across the world playing in different tournaments this summer. Weekly updates of the results will be provided on RollTide.com.
Patrick Kaukovalta | Espoo, Finland | Finnish Tour 4 | Hanko, Finland
Kaukovalta advanced to the Finnish Tour Final after winning three-straight matches as the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The rising sophomore first moved past Masi Sarpola (Finland), 6-3, 6-4, and then Mika Kosonen (Finland), 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, to move on to the quarterfinals. Next, Kaukovalta dominated No. 3 seed Verneri Tuomi (Finland), 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the final, before falling to Ville-Petteri Ahti (Finland) in three sets.
Edson Ortiz | Chihuahua, Mexico | 2018 ITA Summer Circuit
Ortiz has been dominant this summer in the ITA Summer Circuit and has most recently climbed up to No. 2 in the points standings. The rising junior has 700 points and at the conclusion of the circuit, the top five players in the standings will receive automatic entry into the ITA National Summer Championships as well as a $600 travel reimbursement to be used towards the expense of attending the ITA National Summer Championships at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
Jeremy Gschwendtner | London, England | Tournoi Open du TCBB | Boulogne, France
Gschwendtner reached the semifinal of the Tournoi Open du TCBB in Boulogne, France. Gschwendtner had a notable win over Gabriel Alejandro Hidalgo (Argentina) who had an ATP singles ranking high of #311, before falling to Federico Moreno (Argentina) who has an ATP singles of #992 in the semifinal.
Thibault Cancel | Toulouse, France | Austria F3 | Wels, Austria
Cancel won two matches in the qualifying round of the Austria F3 tournament after he bested Philip Bachmaier (Austria) 6-4, 7-6(5), and Shunsuke Wakita (Japan) 6-3, 6-4, before falling in the qualifying final.
