
Alabama’s Daija Lampkin Finishes Seventh in 100 Meters at IAAF World U20 Championships

TAMPERE, Finland – Alabama freshman Daija Lampkin finished seventh in the women's 100 meters for the United States at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland Thursday evening.
The Middletown, Del., native crossed the finish line in 11.59 in Thursday's final to finish just behind sixth-place Lorraine Martins of Brazil. Jamaica's Briana Williams finished first in 11.16, followed by the United States' Twanisha Terry, who finished second in 11.19. Great Britain's Kristal Awuah was third in 11.37.
Lampkin advanced to the final with a second-place finish in 11.55 in her semifinal heat Thursday morning.
Lampkin and her Alabama teammate, Tamara Clark, are also candidates to run on the U.S. 4x100-meter relay squad in Tampere. Relay heats will begin at 10:05 a.m. CT Friday with the final set for 8:04 a.m. CT Saturday.
Clark will also be in action in the 200-meter heats Friday at 4 a.m. CT. The 200-meter semifinals are scheduled for noon CT the same day, with the final set for 7:05 a.m. CT on Saturday, July 14.
Alabama's Christian Edwards will compete in the qualification round of the men's triple jump Friday at 10 a.m. CT for a spot in the final, which will be held Saturday at 7 a.m. CT.
