The Crimson Tide continues summer competition across the world
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis players are spread out all across the world playing in different tournaments this summer. Weekly updates of the results will be provided on RollTide.com.
Edson Ortiz & Sam Fischer | 2018 ITA Summer Circuit | Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Ortiz was crowned singles champion for the second straight week after defeating Marshall Sullivan (Memphis), 6-3, 6-2, in the finals of the 2018 ITA Summer Circuit hosted right here in Tuscaloosa. Ortiz and doubles partner Sam Fischer also won the doubles tournament for the second consecutive week after besting Sullivan/Hobbs, 6-4, in the final.
In four tournaments this summer, Ortiz has been the No. 1 seed and won all four of those competitions.
Patrick Kaukovalta | Espoo, Finland | Finnish Club Nationals
Kaukovalta's club team won the Finnish Club Nationals this past weekend after prevailing over seven different clubs across the country. Kaukovalta went undefeated in singles and doubles, while also defeating Lauri Kiiski who made it to the national finals a week ago as the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The squad won three matches to win the Miehet SM-Liigacup.
Zhe Zhou | Tianjin, China | China F10 Futures | Shenzhen, China
Zhou qualified for the main draw of the China F10 Futures event after moving past Tsung-Hao Huang (Taiwan), 6-3, 6-2, and Hu Liu (China), 6-4, 6-4. Zhou then took care of Chukang Wang (China), 6-4, 6-3, before falling in the first round of the main draw.
Thibault Cancel | Toulouse, France | Austria F2 | Kramsach, Austria
Cancel cruised in the qualifying round of the Austria F2 Tournament as the No. 2 seed to make it to the first round of the main draw. The rising junior first defeated Laurin Aerne (Switzerland), 6-2, 6-4, before he won against Koonwar Gupta (India), 6-1, 6-0, and then moved past Philip Arlienz (Austria), 6-1, 6-4.
