
Alabama Women’s Basketball Transfer Cierra Johnson Named ASWA JUCO Athlete of the Year

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's basketball transfer Cierra Johnson was named Junior College Athlete of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
Johnson ranked as the No. 1 junior college player in the nation by Collegiate Girls Report as a 5-10 do-it-all guard. She spent the past season tearing up the junior college ranks at nearby Shelton State Community College coached by Alabama Alumnae Madonna Thompson.
The Mobile, Ala., native earned NJCAA Region XXII Player of the Year honors in both her seasons at Shelton State, averaging 22 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists as a sophomore. She finished first in the Alabama Community College Conference in minutes per game (26), three-pointers (77), three-point percentage (42.8), free throws (142), free throw percentage (84.7), field goals (287), field goal percentage (60.4) and points per game.
Johnson was also honored as National Player of the Year and named First Team All-American earlier this year. In 2016-17, Johnson was recognized nationally for her performance on the court, being named an NJCAA First Team All-American and to the NJCAA National All-Tournament Team.
