
Alabama’s Shelby McEwen Finishes Fifth in the High Jump at USATF National Championships

All-American equals outdoor personal best at U.S. Championships
DES MOINES, Iowa – Alabama's Shelby McEwen finished fifth in the men's high jump on the final day of USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, Sunday.
McEwen, who was the No. 2 collegiate finisher on Sunday, cleared 7-4 ½ (2.25m) to equal his outdoor personal best, which was his winning clearance at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May. The Abbeville, Miss., native completed his first season of competition at Alabama in June with a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
In addition to McEwen's performance at the U.S. championships, four current and former Tide track & field athletes were in action at the Trinidad & Tobago National Championships in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Former UA hurdler Ruebin Walters defended his Trinidad & Tobago national title in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a win in the event on Saturday in a time of 13.63.
Alabama junior thrower Portious Warren finished second in the women's shot put on Sunday with a mark of 53-7 ½ (16.34m). Warren was also the runner-up in the discus on Saturday afternoon with a throw of 150-5 (45.86m).
Tide junior sprinter Mauricia Prieto finished sixth in the women's 200 meters in a time of 23.49 while former Tide All-American Jereem Richards finished second in the men's 200 meters in 20.35.
