Crimson Tide sophomore makes cut after completing her second round early Saturday morning
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama sophomore Kristen Gillman finished her weather-delayed second round Saturday morning at even par to advance to the third round in this year's U.S. Women's Open at the Shoal Creek Club in Shoal Creek, Ala. Gillman returned to the course at 6:15 a.m. CT on Saturday to complete the second round and carded a 2-over par performance to make the cut and advance to Saturday afternoon's third round.
This is the second year in a row that an active Alabama golfer has made the cut at the Open. Gillman's teammate Lauren Stephenson played on the weekend at last year's tournament in Bedminster, N.J.
Gillman played the third round at 3-over par to end the day tied for 30th place at +3. The Austin, Texas, native was +5 on the front nine but closed with a 2-under par back nine to complete the day. Alabama alum Emma Talley is also at +3 and tied with Gillman and six others in 30th. Former Tide All-American Jenny Suh finished the second round at +11 and did not make the cut.
Gillman will begin Sunday's final round at 10:28 a.m. CT and will be paired with Teresa Lu. Talley will be in the group immediately following Gillman at 10:38 a.m. and will play with Cristie Kerr.
Fourth round coverage will air on Fox from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. CT on Sunday.
