Sixteen Alabama Track & Field Student-Athletes Earn All-America Honors at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Crimson Tide earns first-team honors in six men’s events and the women’s 4x100-meter relay at this year’s championship meet
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Sixteen Alabama track & field student-athletes earned All-America recognition at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships which took place June 6-9 in Eugene, Ore. The selections were announced Monday by the United States Track & Field Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Additionally, the USTFCCCA awarded honorable mention status to six Tide student-athletes.
First-team recognition for the Crimson Tide men went to freshman Christian Edwards (triple jump), junior Kord Ferguson (discus), junior Daniel Haugh (hammer throw), junior Gilbert Kigen (10,000 meters), junior Vincent Kiprop (10,000 meters), junior Shelby McEwen (high jump) and senior Ruebin Walters (110-meter hurdles).
First-team honorees for the Tide women were freshmen Tamara Clark, Daija Lampkin and Demi Washington, as well as sophomore Symone Darius in the 4x100-meter relay.
Men's second-team honors went to Ferguson (shot put), Haugh (discus), Kigen (5,000 meters), Kiprop (5,000 meters), senior Alfred Chelanga (10,000 meters) and junior Keitavious Walter (200 meters).
Women's second-team recognition went to Darius (4x400-meter relay), Lampkin (4x400-meter relay), sophomore Katie Funcheon (4x400-meter relay), Takyera Roberson (4x400-meter relay) and junior Portious Warren (shot put).
Earning honorable mention were Chelanga (5,000 meters) for the men and Clark (100 meters, 200 meters), Warren (discus), junior Tamara Moncrieffe (triple jump), freshman Jaimie Robinson (triple jump) and senior Britainy Smith (pole vault).
The USTFCCCA awards first-team All-America status to student-athletes who finish among the top-eight in their events, including as members of a relay team, at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Second-team All-America honors go to those who finished between ninth and 16th place.
Student-athletes who finished 17th through 24th were named USTFCCCA Honorable Mention.
