Rain and lightning delays push conclusion of round to Saturday morning
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lightning and rain disrupted second round play at the U.S. Women's Open at the par-72, 6,689 Shoal Creek Club on Friday. Alabama sophomore Kristen Gillman was even-par on the day through six holes when play was suspended due to dangerous weather.
The second round will resume at 6:45 a.m. CT on Saturday with the third round to follow upon its conclusion. Gillman is tied for 11th at -2, eight shots off the lead, and will be playing the seventh hole when the round restarts.
The round was initially halted at 2:27 p.m. CT due to lightning in the area. Play resumed nearly four hours later at 6:15 p.m. but was stopped for the day at 7:20 p.m. as weather conditions worsened again.
Alabama alums Emma Talley and Jenny Suh are at +1 and +8, respectively, in their rounds. Talley will resume play on seven with Gillman while Suh will be playing the 12th hole.
Saturday's field will be cut to the top 60 scores (plus ties) following the second round. The cutline is currently +4.
Saturday's coverage will air on Fox from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. CT.
