STILLWATER, Okla. – Alabama freshman Davis Shore sank a 15-foot birdie putt to clinch a 3-2 victory over Texas Tech in the quarterfinals of the 2018 NCAA Men's Golf Championships on Tuesday morning, sending the Crimson Tide into the semifinals. Alabama, the sixth-seed in match play, will take on the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils at 1:30 p.m. CT, with the victor advancing to take on the winner between Auburn and Oklahoma State in Wednesday's championship match.
"What a great match that was," Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said. "I mean, that was down to the last hole. We are thrilled and I'm proud of how our guys fought through a lot of adversity again today. Texas Tech is a great team and we are going to have to do it again against another great team in Duke. We are just excited to still be playing."
Shore's winning putt came on Hole No. 8, his 17th hole of the day after starting on the back nine, to secure a 2&1 victory.
The Tide also got points from freshman Wilson Furr, who defeated Kyle Hogan 7&6, and junior Davis Riley, who claimed a 5&4 victory over Ivan Ramirez.
Senior Jonathan Hardee fell to Hurly Long, 5&4, while senior Lee Hodges dropped a 1up decision to Adam Blomme.
