Robbie Weiss was named ITA Southern Region Assistant Coach of the Year
TEMPE, Ariz. – Alabama men's tennis was heavily represented in the ITA Regional Awards that were released yesterday by the organization.
Assistant Coach Robbie Weiss was named ITA Southern Region Assistant Coach of the Year, while for the second year in a row junior Mazen Osama was selected as the Southern Region's Player to Watch. As a team, Alabama was also recognized with the Southern Region's Community Service Award.
Weiss is in his second year with the program, and helped lead the Tide to it's fourth-ever Sweet 16 appearance and a 20-13 record. The ITA Men's Tennis Hall of Famer is an instrumental part of the program in recruiting and developing players.
Osama became the first All-American for the Tide since 2001 after earning a national seed in the NCAA Singles Tournament and in the NCAA Doubles Tournament with partner Edson Ortiz. The Cairo, Egypt native, is currently ranked No. 10 in singles with a 15-7 record and 9-6 mark against nationally-ranked opponents.
The NCAA Singles and Doubles Tournaments will be played from May 23-28 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
