For the third straight year, the Crimson Tide leads the league with five perfect GPAs
IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference announced its 2018 Academic All-Big 12 Rowing team Thursday, with Alabama leading the league with 35 student-athletes finding a spot on the list, including 33 first-team honorees. That number is a bump from last year's total of 30.
Twelve of the 175 rowing honorees between the league's eight affiliate schools posted perfect 4.0 GPAs and, for the third-straight year, Alabama led the way with five of those twelve perfect GPAs.
The second team consists of student-athletes with a GPA between 3.00-3.19, while the first team award winners hold GPAs of 3.20-plus.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent-of-participation are also eligible.
